Wales Air Ambulance
As many of you will know by now, the Saturday event at Anglesey was abandoned when it became
clear that the heavy rain had made conditions unsafe. This decision was taken after
there had been three significant incidents among
the first 20 cars to practice.
In the most serious of these incidents, Paul Waters sustained a neck injury that meant that he had
to be air-lifted to hospital. Paul should make a full recovery from his injuries in due course, and we wish
him all the best. You can check on the forum for the latest news regarding Paul's recovery.
The fact that Paul's injuries were not more serious that they were is due in no small part to the
excellent work of the rescue crew, who extracted Paul from his car without causing any further damage
to his neck, and to the skill of the air-ambulance crew who had to land at the race circuit in truly
awful conditions.
It is incidents like this that remind us of the vital work of the air-ambulance service, which
is supported entirely by charitable donations. If you would like to donate to the Wales Air Ambulance
Charitable Trust, please go to their web-site at
www.walesairambulance.com.

Hillclimbing & Sprinting - The Essential Manual
A new book by Phil Short & Steve Wilkinson
Many Midland Speed competitors will be aware of the above book, which came out towards
the end of last year and has been very well-received within our sport.
The book takes you from starting out as a novice, with plenty of good advice on how to
tackle Speed Events, and shows how you can improve and progress within the sport.
There is a foreword by the ever-green Allan Staniforth, an interesting History section,
profiles on some of the sport’s personalities, excellent track guides written by knowledgeable
drivers on the 20 most popular courses in the country, a photo gallery and a very comprehensive
reference section. In all there are 112 pages and 150 photos, all in colour, including several
Midland Speed competitors. This book tells you all you need to know about Hillclimbing & Sprinting.
It’s almost 30 years since the last book of this type on our sport, so this one is a welcome
& up-to-date addition and is useful to all levels of competitor.
For those who don’t yet have the book, the authors are offering to make copies available
at the Harewood meeting on 13th April (a Midland Speed round). The book retails at £17.99 but will
be on sale at a special price for Midland Speed contenders and these can be signed by the authors
if you so wish. Or it can be posted to you for a small extra cost.
To pre-order your copy, contact Phil Short on 01943-607630 or e-mail at: phil.short@blueyonder.co.uk
Alternatively contact Dave West, who will have a small stock available during the season.
