Quiet In Here, Isn't It
I notice that no-one has availed themselves of the blogging facility yet. Is that because you have nothing to say, or because you can't work out how it works?
I enjoyed the Shelsley last weekend. That was the last event of my season, and I'm quite happy to stop now. Come the spring, I'm sure my urge to drive like a hooligan will have returned and I'll be up for another go.
I couldn't get the car of the line properly at Shelsley. Normally I'm recording 2.75 - 2.80 for the first 64 feet (all the weight at the wrong end of the car) but last weekend I was doing 2.95 - 3.0. I'm sure the line was a bit dusty. But still I managed to record my fastest run of the year on the first timed run. With a decent start, it would have been close to my PB.
I was winding myself up to do it all again with a better start when the Lotus Elan was brought down the hill on the back of the truck. Then it started spitting with rain. As I sat in the queue for the final timed run, I studied the tarmac alongside the car to see if the rain was wetting it, and I thought about the Elan. So basically I chickened-out.
A good run up Shelsley for me depends on how late I lift going into Crossing, and how early I get on the power again. There's no opportunity to fix a mistake once it's been made, so I have to be right in my head to really commit to that corner. And I wasn't, so I lifted early, got on the power late and lost about a second. But I got the car home in one piece, which is always top priority for me.
Gary Thomas was showing me his new compact camera with "fish-eye" distortion feature. He took a picture of the Cosworth with it. It looks like a hearse...

I have yet to see this kind
I have yet to see this kind of jewelry pieces other than some NH used cars web pages. Honestly, considering the environmental requirements these days, their power and capacity compared to consumption... they really are something! More people should learn how to value these models.
