Farewell
After some 10 years of happy competition the time has come to say goodbye to MSC.
Last year I spent over £60k on developing a competitive Sports Libre car that complied with the MSC Regs for Class 4a.
Now, without consultation or forewarning, MSC has changed the class break point for 4a from 1700cc to 2 litres.
Because of the 2% rule this means that to score well I have to get with 2% of the 2 litre Sports Libre national record. That would be a reasonable challenge were the national records not now held by 1300 forced induction cars which enjoy twice the rear wheel horsepower of a normally aspirated 1600 'bike engined one. This power differential means that on most courses it is a physical impossibility for a 1600 normally aspirated car to get even close to a 1300 blown one no matter how well it's driven (eg a 1600n/a is 2+ secs slower than a 1300f/i at Shelsley alone).
I have asked MSC for an explanation of the changes and an undertaking that these new class breaks will apply for a significant time period so that people do not waste money developing cars only for them to be rendered uncompetitive by seemingly arbitrary rule changes. Nothing has been forthcoming.
Against this background and with the start of the new season fast approaching, I am sadly unable to justify the investment of further time, money or effort in remaining an MSC competitor.
So, farewell and best wishes to all remaining competitors.

Lindsay I would like to agree
Lindsay I would like to agree with Gary's comments about not wishing to lose you from the MSC and our commitment to future changes (or should I say lack of them?). However when I consider the number of E Mails I receive from yourself and the time I spend trying to reply to them it becomes difficult to accept that you do not get any answers. OK so the answers may not be easily forthcoming and you will not agree with them all but you will appreciate the amount of time and effort it takes for a few voluntary individuals to run something like this championship can be considerable. So I wish you well and will undoubtedly see you around the track sometime.
It's great to hear that the
It's great to hear that the MSC has been a happy place for your competition for 10 years.
The change came following correspondance to the committee which pointed out that the national break was at 2 litres and not 1700cc.
With only 2 club championships running the old 1700cc class break this seemed a natural thing to do.
In answer to your question, yes the new class breaks will apply for a significant time period. The MSC has never been a club which changes class breaks on a whim. Equally it can't keep a class running for one competitor in the face of change in the rest of the speed world.
Thanks for the good wishes to the MSC competitors and all the committee will, I'm sure, wish you well.
